4 Ingredient All Natural Lotion DIY Recipe (For Dry Chapped Winter Skin)

I made a jazzy DIY recipe for water based lotion to help keep my skin healthy and moisturized through the chilly winter months. The ingredients are all natural and super nutrient rich to give your skin a seasonal upgrade.

I went with a water based lotion recipe in order to ensure moisture penetration, moisture retention and  super soft and supple skin. I have come to notice that my skin responds better to cream based moisturizers when the weather starts to get cold and dry.

Here is a recipe that can change your winter skin LIFE!

Recipe:

10 oz. Purified Water

3 oz Solid Oil (Cocoa Butter, Shea Butter, Babasau Oil etc.)

2 oz. Sunflower Lecithin

10 drops of Essential Oil

*1 Tsp. Rosehip Oil (great for cell turnover & repair)

The recipe is great and has a shelf life of 2 weeks, with refrigeration the lotion may last up to a month’s time.

*You can also add some tea tree oil/ honey to help preserve the lotion.

I buy my Sunflower here:

Enjoy!  If your try this recipe please let me know how it turn out.

Best Skin Ever! Boot Camp for Clear Skin (Blemish Free in 30 Days) Using All Natural Products

It is time to fight for clear skin. I have noticed a developing habit of wearing makeup more often than my normal 3-4 times a week to wearing makeup almost daily. The issue has been an ongoing blemish and hyper pigmentation festival developing on my cheeks and chin from stress break outs. Not my jam.

I’m ready to get my skin back into shape and the best way I could think to start my clear skin journey was to put my skin in the Best Skin Ever Boot Camp For Clear Skin. This is a 30 day plan to overhaul my blemishes, hyper-pigmentation and uneven skin tone.

The Skin Care Boot Camp is something you can alter to suit whatever your skin care needs are. I based my methods off of a combination of what has worked well for my skin in previous trials. Some of my methods are daily actions, other methods are only happening once a week for a series of 4 weeks in a row.

Regimen

Daily (2x a day):

Wash face with all natural soap

Tone Face with witch hazel or Apple Cider Vinegar

Apply Vitamin C Serum

Weekly:

I make a lot of my all natural face care products (because it’s affordable, skin safe and fun) but if you would like to shop for similar items as the products I am using in my boot camp, some alternatives are listed below.

Confident Leadership Academy E.5: Self Care Results & Wellness Kits

I am one day shy of completing my 7 Day Self Care Challenge and it has been a blast. Some of the features that I appreciated most were the limited time spent on social media and the extra quiet time.

We all need a break sometimes.

I had four big take-aways from my week doing the Self Care Challenge. I feel refreshed and more focused than I have over the last few months…dare I say an actual recharge has happened.

Takeaways:

Self Care even with practice did not necessarily shut my mind off completely. I still had moments of overwhelm but it helped to slow my thinking and processing down. I really enjoyed meditation as a method to stay centered.

I was able to be more present for my kids. I have two children and they are so different but because I was more present minded this week, I noticed that I was able to connect with my kids more deeply and cater my communication to match each of their personalities more intentionally. As a result my kids were more responsive and engaged with me than I recall happening before. It could be my children reflecting my example and if so, that would be totally priceless.

Dealing with disappointment, this week I experienced a business related disappointment. I booked a speaking event and promoted the event, shared my excitement with my friends and family and due to limits on communication, my speaking at the event did not happen. It took a few days to recover from the ordeal but I believe the Self Care Challenge allowed for me to recover in a few days because I was more present. This is the best reminder that Self Care does help speed up recovery from high stress and high emotion experiences.

Finally, I feel more clarity from my social media vacation this week. As a result I find that I am less interested in social media all together. As a result I have spent more time listening to music, reading, reaching out to friends and getting into word finds.

I enjoyed the challenge and encourage you give it a try! More information can be found in the previous post, just click the link below for full access.

Welcome back to The Confident Leadership Academy. Today we will continue our discussion regarding Self Care and Leadership.

To start our conversation today, I want to talk about a free E-book that has really helped me with getting my Self Care regimen updated for each season. We are heading into late fall and Winter territory where adjustments will likely be important for your Self Care regimen. Cold weather, rain and the holidays make it important to increase/ alter your self care regimen to make sure you are in a great place to be your best and give your best to your work, and personal life.

The 7 Day Self Care Challenge is great because it includes multiple styles of useful self care ideas and tips for any season, and it organizes the approach to building a meaningful and practical self care regimen. This makes it more likely that you will build and maintain your regimen and get results. Why is self Care important in Leadership?

There is so many great reasons! To name a few, focus is improved when you practice Self Care, health, mood, patience, peace, joy, perspective, authenticity, relationships, self confidence and insight  all increase in the process of practicing quality Self Care. Quality self care means consistent practice and bonus points for multiple times a day! Some may balk at the expectation of practicing Self Care multiple times a day but if your Self Care regimen is practical to your lifestyle it will not be hard to make the time for consistent practice.

Confident Leadership Academy E.3: Why & How to Practice Self Care at Work + 5 Work Place Self Care Ideas

Self Care is something that feels rather “buzz wordy” these days and I get it. Self Care is something that is mentioned in multiple magazines, Starbucks mugs, and by life gurus including Oprah and so on. However, I love seeing Self Care go mainstream, because awareness can really help change lives.

But, there is a small issue with using a buzz word such as Self Care; sometimes people may not include an explanation nor any practical points of application, so you may have feelings of elusive knowledge and no place to go.

Worry not, we are going to talk about what Self Care is a little and we are also going to look at why Self Care is important and, practical ways you can put Self Care to practice at work.

To begin, it is helpful to talk about what Self Care is. I like to describe Self Care as, an individualized time to quiet your mind and body, away from distraction to reflect and recharge (your mind & body) for refreshed energy to live your life more peacefully.

Why is Self Care so important at work?

There was a study I read about recently, where 65% of employed American citizens voiced that their number one point of stress was work or work related. And the number one opportunity to prevent work related stress is going to be regular practice of Self Care. I noticed that when I started to implement Self Care practice into my work day, I started to feel more in control of my mood and my ability to concentrate, to get my work done. Before, I often felt like I was putting out fires from the time I entered the office and all the way home post work day. Self Care practice at work changed that for me.

How to Practice Self Care at Work?

I wanted to be sure to share practical and realistic Self Care methods to try in your work place. This week I am going to list them. Next week, I am going to elaborate more on each method (so stay tuned).

  1. Go for a office walk every hour or every other hour (great for energy + a mental refreshment boost).
  2. Continue to hydrate throughout the day (energy boost).
  3. Stretch (Energy & Comfort).
  4. Stand up during your meetings (other people usually will join you- they want energy too).
  5. Meditate (use the “quiet” room or a spare conference room, even 4-5 minutes can give you big results).

I hope you found this weeks Confident Leadership Academy Course information valuable.

How to Make A Turban Hat & Satin Bonnet: A 2-In-1 DIY ( Beginner Sewing- Natural Hair Accessories)

Hi Friends,

Today I was inspired to make a Satin Turban Hat/ Satin Bonnet. It was the simplest design I could think of. This Turban hat/ satin bonnet is great for day wear on a bad hair day and I love to wear this turban hat at bedtime to protect my hair from drying out. My goal was to make a turban hat that would actually stay put while sleeping and while running errands. Success is what happened my friends.

Supplies you will Need:

1 yard Satin Fabric

Thread

Sewing Machine

Scissors

Measuring tape

Well Fitting Hat for Template

Directions:

Fold your satin fabric in half horizontally. Lay the fabric on a flat surface and cut two 4 inch strips from the left or right end of the fabric.

Unfold  each strip, the length should be around 60 inches by 4 inches. Fold the fabric in half length wise, pin in place. Sew in place. Repeat this step for the second strip of fabric as well. Once both strips of fabric are sewn in place flip them print side out.

Next, take both strips of fabric and lay them horizontally on the ground parallel to each other. Loop one strip of fabric through the other strip of fabric to form an x, then match both sides of one strip to one side leaving a knot in the middle. This will be the turban band detail.

Next, match the edges of both sides of the turban band satin strip where they meet at the center, pin together. Sew in place. Repeat from the opposite side of the turban band satin strip.

If you would like you can hemn the edges of the turban band strips ( I left the ends of the strips frayed) .

Now it’s time to make the cap.

Measure the height and circumference of your head. My head was 26 inches in circumference and 8 inches in height from my ears to the mid point of the top of my head. Keep your satin fabric folded double.

Place your template hat on top of the fabric, verify your measurements on your fabric with a washable marker and cut around the fabric in the shape of a half oval.

Pin the center of the hat, just the curve of the fabric. You can add pleats as you pin if you would like. Sew in place.

Turn the cap portion of your hat outside out and hemn the bottom of the hat. I recommend a double fold hemn because it will keep the hat from fraying.

Now we can connect, the satin cap to the turban band strips to finish our hat/ bonnet.

Turn the hat upside down and find the center seam. Match the center seam with the knot loop of the turban band strip. Pin together where the edges of the fabric meet. Leave an opening at the loop of about a half inch and then start pinning. Pin all the way to the back inseam of the hat, stop pinning 3 inches before the inseam on both sides. This will create the ability to tie the bonnet as tight or as loose as you would like. Sew everything down.

You are now finished! Easy right?
